Check Your School

Financial education in our nation’s classrooms is our best opportunity to give all students, regardless of their address or socio-economic status, the knowledge and ability they’ll need to manage their money wisely throughout their lives.

We want YOU to start a conversation! We have tools for both parents and educators to help make sure their school is offering students the personal finance knowledge they need!

The Jump$tart Coalition believes that financial education is critical to lifelong financial well-being and empowerment.

We believe that financial education must begin in elementary school, when children are forming their habits and attitudes about money; that it must continue in middle grades as many young people are beginning to make independent financial decisions; and that it must be required for all high school students to prepare them for their lives as savvy adult consumers. Financial education in our nation’s classrooms is our best opportunity.

What is Check Your School?

Check Your School is a rallying cry for parents, teachers and the community to help bring effective financial education to K-12 classrooms. Every child needs to learn about personal finance, but not all children are getting the education they need.

To change that, we need the “power of parents” to advocate for their kids. Jump$tart is combining the passion of parents with the talent and commitment of thousands of dedicated classroom educators and orchestrating support from across the financial literacy community.

If you believe that all students deserve financial education, and you want to help … check your school! Start by checking with your kid’s school, the school where you work, or the school you support to see if financial education is available.

Help support raising awareness about the need for effective financial education in your community.

Check Your School is not a single product or program, but rather a public awareness and engagement campaign designed to bring financial education to more schools using a variety of educational resources offered by Jump$tart Coalition partners and others.

One way you can support raising awareness about the need for effective financial education in your community is by supporting Jump$tart’s Teen Teach-In events. These events, held every April and October, empower high school students studying personal finance to become “teachers for a day” to bring financial lessons to their elementary school counterparts—and the accompanying earned and social media campaigns help kickstart conversations about classroom financial education in the broader community.

We can make a difference!

By harnessing the “power of parents” to demand what’s best for their kids, utilizing the talent and commitment of thousands of dedicated classroom educators, and orchestrating support from across the financial literacy community, we hope to bring effective financial education to every public, private, and charter elementary, middle, and high school in the country.
